The horrifically brilliant Swedish horror movie Let The Right one In is now available on bluray. Expect the usual 1080p full HD resolution but there’s no info on the soundtrack as of yet, but I’m sure it’ll be scary enough whatever the codec.

Let the Right one in bluray tells the story of the bullied 12-year-old Oskar who befriends a female vampire named Eli. Scary stuff…

If you’re a fan of the Saw series, you’ll be happy to know that the first three movies are shortly available on Blu-ray. The third installment has been available since Monday, and from March 30 both Saw and Saw 2 is released on Blu-ray in UK.

There’s very scarce information about the first two movies, but the third one comes with Dolby Digital 5.1 EX and DTS-ES Matrix 6.1, and a bag of featurettes:

Teen heart breaker Robert Pattinson will get his teeth stuck into blu-ray players around the UK beginning of April. The vampire movie is set for its UK release and among the features are an interview with Stephanie Meyer, Deleted and Extended Scenes, Theatrical trailer and TV Spots, and two Music featurettes. And If the American version is anything to go by, we can expect DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.

So look out for lots of sharp teeth and teen love next month.

¿quieres jugar Hacky Sack? Original and scary in Spanish.

If you are a subtitle snob look away now as this Spanish language ghost film probably wont be for you, if you don’t mind the subtitles then read on as 5 minutes in you forget about the subtitles altogether and realise this film is a little gem.

The tale of a family that opens an orphanage for disabled children only to find the ghosts of the past refuse to stay in the cellar.

The directorial debut of the talented Juan Antonio Bayona, this is everything current American horror is not, completely devoid of cheap shock tactics as Bayona delivers an assured and clever film that never resorts to blood and gore to entertain its audience, instead using story and character to drive the film towards its genuinely heartbreaking final scenes.

Overall the Blu-Ray edition is very good, a good array of fairly entertaining and informative featurettes and documentaries. The picture quality is fine and dandy but the sound is the discs high point, the DTS-Master HD fully exploits the eerie atmosphere with pin sharp bangs and creaks emanating from all corners of the room.

Overall a genuinely original film deserving of a wider audience, though with  New Line picking up the rights to produce a remake, hopefully,  that is just what it will get.
