- "Hey, look at this!" Mr Penn only realised too late that he had forgot to wear his giant finger, how embarrasing...
It could have been so good, instead we got this, ick! I rented this Blu-Ray as I got really hooked on the synopsis and powerful HD trailer on the PSN - the rise and fall of a charismatic populist senator in the deep souths of the US; empowered by the people to take on the corrupt leaders. The original flick from the late 1940s may have won an Oscar for best picture, but this modern sleeping pill surely did not. Even with it’s impressive cast of top notch actors such as Sean Penn, Anthony Hopkins, Kate Winslet and Mark Ruffalo (note how I omit Jude Law), it just isn’t enough to make it interesting throughout the two hour feature.
In terms of the Blu-Ray release, to my untrained eyes it had some pretty beautiful shots of the southern states, with vibrant colours that makes you feel the warmth, and nice crisp details in it’s 1080p Full HD resolution. On the sound side of things, the PCM 5.1 soundtrack is decent enough, but unfortunately the whole package is just not that exciting. It’s a pitty that the film is such a snooze for the most part, and only really gets momentum at the very end, if you manage to last that long…
