The 1984 sci fi movie 2010 is set nine years after the failure of the Discovery mission to Jupiter of the movie 2001: a space oddesey. The film features the late Roy Scheider and brilliant Helen Mirren, and was nominated for no less than five oscars, although it didn’t manage to win any.

The 2010 blu ray release clocks in at 116 minutes of 1080p high definition video with both Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack.

April 27 will be like Christmas Day for high def Star Trek fans. This one day will see the release of the six disc set Star Trek Movies 1 – 6 Blu-Ray and the original 1966s series completely remastered Star Trek Season 1 on blu-ray with DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1.

Beam me up scotty! I’m ready for 2148 minutes of William Shattner!

Comicbook hero Daredevil enters the blu-ray arena on April 20. Ben Affleck plays the blind hero with super senses. Haven’t seen this movie yet, but hopefully it will be better than his later performance in Hollywood land as  the original superman.

Daredevil Blu-ray comes with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1

As a keen white-collar boxer I’ve been looking forward to watch Tyson’s irons fists in high def on April 6.

The Movie is 96 minutes long and depicts the life and career of Mike Tyson, both in and outside of the ring.

Whatever you might think of Tyson as a person, he was a brilliant boxer (sure he still is) and extremely controversial (remember that ear-chewing moment…) so should be a very entertaining watch as long as you can stand some blood.

Yesterday I went to my local boxing clubs fight night, which was sponsored by Tyson The Movie.Although I didn’t manage to catch one of the free Tyson the Movie DVD’s that were thrown out to the spectators, I wasn’t too sad as I’ve already pre-ordered my Blu-Ray copy, so look out for a review shortly after release.

Teen heart breaker Robert Pattinson will get his teeth stuck into blu-ray players around the UK beginning of April. The vampire movie is set for its UK release and among the features are an interview with Stephanie Meyer, Deleted and Extended Scenes, Theatrical trailer and TV Spots, and two Music featurettes. And If the American version is anything to go by, we can expect DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.

So look out for lots of sharp teeth and teen love next month.

Wow, this new Plasma screen is so real...

April 24th see’s the release of Scott Derrickson’s much malingned remake of Robert Wise’s seminal 1951 chiller The Day The Earth Stood Still. Critically shredded when released in theatres over christmas, can the Blu-Ray prove more successful?

Coming in at 3 discs, it will reportedly contain both a digital copy AND a copy of the original 51 classic, as well as the usual docs and commentaries and DTS-HD audio. So it may be worth a look after all. Review coming soon.

The very funny movie Yes Man starring Jim Carrey, will be available for Blu-Ray in UK on April 20th. As a big fan of Danny Wallace I’ve ofcourse already read the book and watched the movie at the cinema, and without giving anything away, the movie and book are worlds appart. Pretty much the only thing in common is that they say yes a lot.

The Blu-Ray will come in 1080p full HD resolution and with a soundtrack in 5.1 Dolby TrueHD. There also seem to be quite a few extras on the disc, which will hopefully be pretty funny. It will also come with a digital copy to watch on computers or media players.

American History X is an incredbly powerful film, and the one were I got to know about Edward Norton and his talent that’s as vast as his biceps (at least in this movie). Edward Furlong is also carrying his role extremely well, and I find it quite puzzling that he dissapeared of the film scene so sudden.

To be released in the UK Aprild 3rd, and a solid must-have for any film enthusiast.

Australia - Even more beautiful in HD

Baz luhrmann’s beautifully shot epic Australia will be ready for UK Blu-Ray players on April 27th. The movie might not be the most exciting thing coming from Oz (that must be the snake bite!), but it sure looks to be the perfect film to show of the capabilities of your HD homecinema set-up with Full HD 1080p resolution and DTS-HD Master Audio.

The brilliant comic book series will get complete on Blu-Ray with the release of The X-Men Trilogy Blu-Ray Collection on April 20th. As expected it will be in Full HD 1080p and a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio Soundtrack, so you can really her Wolverines metallic claws ripping through the flesh of the bad guys.
